Something a little Tarty
This is a beautiful Onion Tart that my godfather made for me from my Mothers recipe!
What you'll need
For the Pastry
170g Plain Flour
45g Lard
45g Margarine
Pinch of Salt
2 tbsp Water
For the Filling
900g Onions (very finely sliced)
55g Butter
1 Whole Roast Garlic
5 Sage Leaves
10ml Sour Cream
3 tbsp Whole Milk
1 large Egg (beaten)
Salt and Pepper
- Combine the Flour, Lard, Marg, Salt and Water in a Food Processor to the make the pastry (pulse only till incorporated no more).
- Preheat the oven to 180°C.
- Rest the pastry for 30mins in the fridge, then blind bake for 15mins.
- Remove the baking beans and glaze the pastry case with egg and return to the oven for a further 5 mins.
- Meanwhile prepare the filling. Slowing sweat the Onions in the Butter with a lid on for 15mins or more until golden and very soft.
- Mix together the Sour Cream, Milk, Egg and seasoning.
- Add the Garlic, Chopped Sage and Onions to the mix and pour into the pastry case.
- Bake for 40mins.
