A Quick Tour Of Hong Kong

My Top Ten places in Hong Kong.
I was recently asked to share my favourite spots in Hong Kong by SK-II. After some thought (as I love Hong Kong and many nameless places that friends have taken me to) I came up with these ten places. Although there are some obvious places missing as I’m assuming that you’re already in love with Lane Crawford, Harvey Nicks and Shanghai Tang.

Joyce

Joyce is one of my favourite boutiques in the world, let along Hong Kong. The staff are super friendly and the buy is so fresh and contemporary. They also have really great sales. Check out their new shoe and bag department it’s stunning.

Milan Station

Milan Station is my guilty pleasure, this is the bag reseller in Hong Kong I believe you can trust, it’s publicly listed and assured by the government, also everything I have ever bought there I have had authenticated by the relating brand and it has always been real. Their prices do seem to increase for new bags, so aim for the lightly used pieces to get a bargain.

Tai Hing

Go for a early evening stroll in Causeway bay, stop for roast pork and duck at the little shop next to the Milan Station, the Barley water is yummy. Pudding isn’t really a thing over there unless you want to queue for an hour so make sure to grab a yummy fresh fruit cup on one of the corners instead.

Chinese Arts and Crafts

This used to be a chain but now I think the best store is in Queensway.  You can buy everything here from beautiful cashmere blankets, to fabric, to jewellery. They have a great loyalty system that gets you a discount so make sure to join up. Stock tends to change a lot so if you like something a lot buy two because it might not be there your next trip (I speak from sad experience).

Star Ferry

Nothing feels more Hong Kong, or more endlessly absorbing then taking the Star Ferry across the Harbour. Buy egg tarts at the station to munch on during the trip.  Try and take a trip in the day and the night, both are equally beautiful in terms of views of the city from the water.

Silver Jeans

EditorialsOn LocationOutfits
My second to last Metallic outfit of the series (catch up with the Gold Dress, Silver Biker, and Silver Sandals). This time looking at metallic jeans. You might remember way back when I wore these jeans to PFW.  At that time 'trend' denim wasn't really so much of a thing (and as you know I'm not much for trends anyway). Instead I bought the jeans because they reminded me of Bowie.

By buying these jeans I’ve learnt several lessons about owning and wearing silver jeans.

One: never ever wash the jeans, whatever the care label says that silver will never be the same post wash, it’s a dry clean only situation.

Two: don’t over do it. I only wear my silver jeans with grey, black and white. Anything else you look insane.

Three: never underestimate the casual nature of metallics, wear them down not up.  That way you will look like a off-duty rockstar not an Xfactor extra.

I hope these little pointers will help. I wish I had know at least about the washing thing before I had bought a pair!

My Guacamole

Cold SaucesExtrasNibblesParty PlanningSavourySides
This recipe is a family favourite. Add it to salads, the tops of jacket potatoes, open sandwiches or use as a dip with my Sour Cream and Nachos. It's great with everything! Sometimes I take out the Tomato and add freshly chopped Coriander (about a 1/4 cup) instead. This makes it so fresh and yummy! If your Avocados are a bit hard smash them alone first, that way you won't obliterate the other ingredients.

Crush it

  1. Chop the Tomato into small chunks place in a pestle and mortar.
  2. Halve the Avocado and scoop out the fruit retaining the stone on the side. Add to the pestle and mortar too.
  3. Finely chop the Red Onion and add to the mix.
  4. Use the pestle and mortar to squish the ingredients together into a chunky paste. (lumps are good!)
  5. Season with Salt and Pepper and squeeze the Lime juice in.
  6. Mix again and top with Chilli Flakes.
  7. Add the Avocado Stone to the top until ready to use (this stops the avocado going brown!).
