The Dog About Town You’ve Heard About 0.1

Chanel Haute Couture FW17/18 interpreted by Peony Lim, featuring Iraida the dog, Kit Lee on stills and Frances Davison and Rosie Lord on Video.

For Chanel Haute Couture FW17/18 Karl Lagerfeld payed tribute to Paris, the Eiffel Tower (one of the worlds most admired monuments), Robert Delaunay and the perfect autumnal day in Paris. But London is my home, and the Tower Bridge is my Tower. I wanted to create a shoot that was inspired by the Chanel Couture collection but represented in London, in an english way. This collection is about form and structure just like these great works of art and architecture.  Both  Couture and Architecture are all about the workmanship and craftsmanship, structure and form. The practical and the artistic. This was the first collection from Chanel Couture I have worked with, with emphasis on the form over the detail. It was exciting and empowering to wear clothes made to fit and form, not decorate and elaborate. I somehow felt more of a person, a woman. Like all good clothes, they made the focus me, not them. Iraida, my canine companion, was the perfect accessory (along with the wonderfully slouchy cabbage hats, I fell totally in love with). She was so strong and elegant, so determined and sculptural. Our shades of grey merged into one.

Sihlotte, shape and colour.

Sexy Ruby

Collaborations • Editorials • London
With notes of pepper, orange and vanilla... Sexy Ruby will make you feel on fire.

When I was asked to attend the events around the launch of Sexy Ruby I was so excited. Who wouldn’t be? By the prospect of getting all dolled up, having my hair done, having tea with the MK muses (all of whom turned out to be as lovely inside as they look on the outside) and finally attending a fabulous party at the Tate Modern to celebrate.

The fragrance itself comes in a gorgeous bottle, the liquid inside looks like oil, it’s so thick and lustrous through the red prism of the glass bottle.  Boldly luxurious, brilliantly faceted and glamoursly mesmerising. The top notes of the fragrance are raspberry, apricot, cabana and pepper.  These mingle withe mid notes of orange blossom absolute, indian jasmine samba and rose petals. Finally combined with the dry notes of moss crystal, cashmere woods and vanilla bean.

Ultimately this combination evokes a modern chypre fiery with sensuality. Emotive and rich in seduction, strength and glamour. Where fantasy meets femininity and a woman is her sexist. A boldly luxurious, brilliantly faceted and glamoursly mesmerising fragrance.

Soy Sauce Pork Belly Canapes

Meat • Nibbles • Party Planning • Savoury
This dish is so versatile. You can serve it with rice as a main course or as I have done here as a canapé. The pickled cucumber is delicious with it either way. As with many dishes, this is better served the next day. So if you have time, let it rest over-night for extra flavour.
1
  1. Slice the Pork Belly into cubes an inch square.
  2. Place a large pan of water on the hob and bring it to simmer.
  3. Add the Pork and stir until white scum comes to the top of the water. Then drain and rinse the Pork under a running tap.
  4. Return the pan to the hob, wipe it dry and add the Sesame Oil and Palm Sugar. Heat until they begin to look like caramel and bubble a little.
  5. Add the Pork and toss. Keep the heat high and caramelise the edges of the pork till you have a nice golden brown colour throughout.
  6. After 5 minutes, add the Wine and two Soy Sauces. Turn the heat down and stir every now and then.
  7. Leave the pork to very lightly simmer for around an hour.  If the sauce looks like it’s getting too thick add some water.
  8. Now make the Cucumber Pickles. In a bowl add the Vinegar and Sugar and stir until its dissolved.
  9. Shave the Cucumber into long ribbons or little chunks (whatever you prefer). Then spread them out paper towel.
  10. Sprinkle the Cucumber with salt and leave for 20mins.
  11. Then take the drained Cucumber and add it to the Pickle mix.
  12. When the Pork has a rich sauce and is soft, use a slatted spoon to remove the pork and set it aside.
  13. Now over a high heat, reduce the remaining sauce to make a thick and rich glaze.
  14. Turn the heat off and allow the sauce to cool a little before returning the Pork pieces to the pan and coating then in the sauce.

Now serve either on a bowl of White Rice with the Pickles or on screwers with the Pickle and a few leaves of Coriander.
