The Porthminster Cafe

Eat

The Porthminster Cafe is a wonderful place to visit.  Although previously they only opened for the summer, now all year round you can enjoy their yummy food and breathtaking views.

Porthminster Cafe

Set in a beach hut above Carbis Bay (across the bay and a short walk from St Ives), the views are stunning. On a clear day the sand is white and the sea is bright blue. There really is no where else like it in England.  Make sure to request a table outside in on the deck, nearest the beach in good weather.

The food at the Porthminster is fresh, seafood based, slightly asian inspired and always good. There is something for everyone though (if your not a fish eater).

If you can’t get a reservation, you can always pop along anyway to the take-away booth, where there is no bad table since you can sit on the beach!  All my friends love going here, as do I!

The Secret that’s on my lips

Makeup

After a long wait here it is…  The Red Lipstick Post.  I never gave much thought to my red lipstick. Mostly because I think beauty is so personal. Its really important to go and try lipsticks on (this can be quite messy so I just turn the lipsticks out almost full length and then hold them in front of my mouth to tell if the tone is right for my skin, only if I think it is do I actually put it on).Your skin tone and hair colour play a huge role in what kind of red you should go for. Broadly speaking I would say if you’re fair and blonde go for a more orange red, if you’re dark and olive go for a more plum.  However thats just the opposites on the spectrum, if like me you have a yellow skin tone look for more blue reds, while if you’re darker go more pink. Think of it as a sliding scale in four directions, with orange, blue, brown and pink at the ends. But don’t feel too restricted by these guides, thats all they are, a starting point.

Even within the colours that suit you there is a huge variation in what you can wear.  In this post I have included all of the lipsticks you could ever have seen me in. This is the complete spectrum of colours I wear. All the way from pale pink to dark plum.

I don’t want to play favourites but if I had to choose only two colours I would go with Tom Ford Quiver (a pale pink) and Cherry Lush (a bright red). I think Tom Ford lipsticks are the best in terms of comfort. Red lipsticks tend to be quite thick because of the colour and therefore can be quite dry after a few hours of wear, but Tom Ford lipsticks are very moisturising and have a lovely shine to them without glitter (which I’m not mad about).

Hot and Cold Summer Salad

SaladsSavouryStarters
This hot and cold salad is a summer staple. Its super easy and fast to make and it looks wonderful on a big plate to share with loved ones. You can serve this as a meal of its own or as part of a BBQ or as a starter. If you have veggie friends like me, you can replace the Bacon with Tuna or fried Tofu for them.
  1. Fry the Bacon and slice lengthways into thin strips.
  2. Keep the bacon pan (it will add flavour) and heat a tbsp of Olive Oil and dark Balsamic vinegar in a pan and toss the baby Tomatoes, Capers, Salt and Pepper around until the skin of the tomatoes start to brown and break open.
  3. Dress the fresh Peas with the Puree, Chives, Roast Garlic, White Balsamic Vinegar and Season.
  4. Boil the Eggs until they have a soft but don’t have a completely wet yolk. I tell this by placing the eggs in boiling water and then removing them after  3-4 mins, the egg should start to dry in patches after about 10seconds.
  5. Open the Endive leaves and lay them on your plate, fill each one with the peas first then the warm tomato and caper mix, then the quarters of boiled eggs, garnish with sprigs of parsley and Bacon.
