Making a Dress from a Scarf. Part One

ArticlesDIYFashion Tutorials

I know this is long over due but at last here is the scarf dress tutorial you have been asking for.  You may remember that I wore this blue and white look for NYFW last September. Afterwards I got so many requests to show how to make the dress I knew I had to do a tutorial.  So here it is!  I’ve used smaller scarves (hence the top like length) just to make the tutorial a bit clearer.

I have worn a slip under the scarves here , it can be really pretty to use a lace one under the dress or as I did in NYC just the scarves looks great too!  Please let me know if any of this isn’t clear and I will explain further!  Happy DIYing!

  1. Take scarf one and lie it print side down, fold the top corner about a quarter back towards you.
  2. Repeat the same process with scarf two and then hold them together, folds on the outside, print on the inside.
  3. Tie the corners of the folds together either side and pull tight, this knot needs to be strong but small as it will sit on your shoulder.
  4. Place your head through the loop, with your arms in the gap between the two scarves.
  5. Take a safety pin and pin the back scarf to the inside of the front scarf.  This will hold the dress shut. I would begin with one on each side and then work out how many more you need to feel safe and covered.
  6. Take the ribbon and tie it around your waist, making a bow at the back.
  7. With all these scarf based outfits, its so important to look in the mirror at the end and alter the way the scarves are hanging to make sure they look their best.

Asian Mind

Liquids

The Asian Mind cocktail is based on one my mother loves from the Mandarin Oriental in Hong Kong. Its zingy and fresh so perfect for the summer months. Glasses and Marble Stone available at John Lewis.

  1. Grate the Ginger into a puree and then mix with the Sugar Syrup.
  2. Juice the Lemons and Grapefruits and combine.
  3. Finally add the Gin and mix well.
  4. To Sugar rim the glasses, simply run the Lemon across the rim and then press into sugar. I have used pink cake decoration crystals here, its a great way to add some creativity to the presentation.

By the Seaside

CollaborationsOn LocationOutfits

Whenever you go to the seaside in England you have to be prepared to get a bit windswept and most probably a touch too cold, all at the same time as risking no-warning burns from the wind and sun. Nonetheless who doesn’t love the sea and all its attractions. I love the sea, it’s home.  However all this random weather does mean you need a good bag to keep all your extra layers in! I love this Couronne bag, it doubles as a backpack and a shoulder bag (as seen in the photos). I don’t think I have ever owned a backpack (well not since I grew out of my last pair of school shoes), they just aren’t my style, although I would love one from The Row and this is the second one to win me over, not only is it so practical but its also sooo cute too!  On a separate note, how amazing is this hat my mummy gave me! I love it. She bought it in Spain from a riding shop. It’s what they wear for dressage!
