Fowey, Cornwall

Do

This little harbour town can easily be traversed by foot, with a keen attitude and flat shoes. Although built on a hill you can easily start at the top and walk down through the town.

Built predominately in regional granite, the houses are painted cheerful pastels and in the summer, bunting and twinkling regatta lights hang from street to street. In recent years it has become more fashionable and innumerable little cafes and shops now line the one-track streets. You can still get good food at Sam’s or pick up a traditional pasty at many places (Niles is very Cornish). Kittow’s Butcher is also worth a visit for deli food and great local cuts. You can take mackerel fishing trips from the key as well as rent little dinghies. Further towards the harbour office you can get the Bodinnick Ferry, by car or foot it’s a real treat.  The view across the harbour and out to sea is charming all year round, but the summer makes the whole town sparkle with magic (although you will sadly have to share it with many people).
